Hype Train FC's 100th Match:

On Saturday 7th May 2022, Hype Train FC compete against AFC Cressex in the final of the East Berkshire Football League's Presidents Cup. The club was formed in June 2019 and since then we have been part of the the EBFL, with the team competing in its first proper campaign after two years of widespread and season-ending cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since the start of our journey in 2019, the club has continued to grow both on and off the field as we look to solidify long-term roots in the Reading area within grassroots football. We joined the East Berks League, and then formed the Reading Sunday Social League (RSSL) in 2021 alongside Caversham United, an 8-team competition, that was our maiden outing into the world of Sunday League football. This led to the team joining the ranks of the Reading & District Sunday Football League for the 2021/22 season, meaning we grew to having team's fielded on both days of the weekend.

The Presidents Cup final against Cressex is the club's second final, with the team competing against Woodley Saints in the 2021 RSSL Grand Final, whilst is the team's first cup final in straight knockout competition.

Our route to the Presidents Cup final...

Our route to the final in the Presidents Cup, which is a competition featuring bottom-half Premier Division and Division One teams within the EBFL, saw the team enter in the preliminary round, overcoming Sandhurst 8-0 at home, which set up a Round of 16 encounter away against unbeaten Division One leaders, Harts of Bracknell. The team battled from behind to take a 2-1 lead, which was extinguished with virtually the last kick of the game. Right from kick-off though, we went down the other end of the pitch, won a corner, with Chris Marshall scoring at the death to advance to the quarter-finals.

The Last 8 saw the team's toughest challenge as we went away again, this time to Premier Division outfit Frontline FC. The team took a 2-0 lead in at half-time, before Frontline levelled the game with a wonder-strike from range, before Callum Parr-Jones scored a worldie of his own in extra-time, to seal our progression to the semi's. Then in the semi-finals, a confident 5-2 victory over Old Windsor FC Reserves, our first ever win over an Old Windsor outfit, sealed our spot in the final at Burnham FC's 1878 Stadium.

Following on from that, we arranged a new kit with the team at Kitlocker to celebrate the Presidents Cup final, which was the club's 100th game as a club.

Thoughts from Hype Train FC Owner, Robert Austin:

"Any formative football club has to think right out of the gate what they want to get out of their club in terms of branding, marketing, appeal, to logistics such as kit and apparal - all of those things go hand in hand with the excellence and service that Kitlocker have provided to our team since we formed in 2019.

Ahead of our Presidents Cup final, we reached out to Kitlocker, who jumped at the chance of helping us craft a new jersey for the club to commenorate the occasion, as well as our 100th game as a football club. We have crafted some amazing pieces from their Power-Up range in the last couple of years, but they have just topped themselves with our new white Hyperdrive kit. Everyone in the team has been not-so-quietly suggesting that they were desperate for a white top and I'm finally happy to have had Kitlocker design and get us an amazing jersey for such a big day for the club. We couldn't be happy with our partnership and relationship with them - they're the industry standard fo bespoke kit design and any clubs looking for high quality designs and kits should reach out to their team.

Alluded too above, we have been on a journey of constant development since we formed in June 2019 and it has led to our 100th match being in a cup final of all games, against an opposition, AFC Cressex, who we had our first landmark result against in any competition, and a game where two of our players (Martin King and Callum Parr-Jones, managed to win seperate Goal of the Season awards. It's a perfect occasion for the league, for ourselves and for everyone, to showcase our years of hardwork and dedication on and off the pitch.

The team were ready, the reaction to the new kit on the day was only positive, and being able to get over the line to win a first-ever trophy was just perfect. It was a perfect day that I will never forget - and so many people and companies helped us get to this perfect moment."
