Hype Train FC: Showcase Matches in Grassroots Football:
On Sunday 14th May 2023 the Reading & District Sunday League held the final of the John Lusted Cup, a cup competition featuring teams from Division 4, with Caversham United Reserves and Richfield Rovers competing in the showpiece event at The Rivermoor Stadium in Tilehurst, home of Reading City FC.
As part of the day, we at Hype Train were given permission to be on media duties for the day to capture the day on film for our very first Showcase Match - a new series on our YouTube channel that will be filming key moments from the grassroots football calendar.
If your club has a cup final or big event coming up, feel free to reach out to the team on our email address, contact@thehypetrain.co.uk, and we will see if we can attend the event! We are located in Reading and fall under the Berks & Bucks FA umbrella.
Thoughts from Hype Train General Secretary, Robert Austin:
"One of the day one ambitions we had at Hype Train from day one was to improve and shed a positive light on grassroots football through whatever means we had. We take the local game seriously and like it to be played in the right way, and though it has taken us a few years to feel comfortable doing so, now is the right time for us to outreach and offer the Hype Train experience to other clubs in the Reading and surrounding areas for marquee events.
As a club, we have a great relationship with the team at Caversham. They train next to us at the same time, have had some cracking games against The Billy Goats. I've also known Paul Gutteridge since our school days and have known James Tapscott for over a decade too, whilst Nev Swift is an absolutely professional and really took the time on the day to talk to us. So it was a privilege to be able to capture their cup final experience on the day, hopefully these are memories both clubs can visualise for a lifetime now. Not only this, building new relationships is also key and the team at Richfield were a top bunch that carried themselves well!
Football is ultimately about bringing people together from all backgrounds for the love of the game, and that's what our Showcase Matches are ultimately about. Thank you to the Reading & District Sunday League Committee for allowing the Train down for the cup final, and to James Mason for your support on the day!"
