Player of the Month - Leon Mannion:

Our Player of the Month award for October 2021 is our fifth monthly award given out, with Leon Mannion winning the player vote at the club after a great month scoring at the club - winning the accolade for the first time and succeeding the award from Chris Marshall who was the last recipient in September 2021.

The team started October with an impressive 5-1 victory over Wokingham & Emmbrook's Development team on 1st October 2021, which was the team's first-ever outing on a Friday night. What was ultimately classed as a friendly, Mannion scored the team's 2nd and 5th goals, whilst also providing a brace of assists.

Two days later on Sunday 3rd October 2021, the team advanced to the Last 16 of the John Lusted Cup with an 8-3 home victory against Core FC at Calcot Recreation Ground. Mannion scored his second hat-trick of the season that day, netting the club's 2nd, 4th, and 5th goals, during the high-scoring cup encounter.

A week later on the 10th October, the team returned to league action in Reading & District Sunday League Division 4, with the team beating NFFT FC 5-0 at the South Reading Leisure Centre. Mannion contributed to the first 3 goals, scoring the only goal of the first-half, before assisting Paul Hatfield with a fine cross after a good counter, before teeing up Callum Fox-Spence to treble the lead.

Again in RDSL league action on 17th October, the team won big on the road as we beat Calcot FC 8-0 at Linear Park. Though Mannion was unable to find the back of the net, he provided 2 assists in a 60-minute performance, crossing for Owen Jones in the first-half, before providing the key pass for Hatfield to strike from range.

The team's 5th outing of the month was arguably the team's best so far this season as we advanced to the Last 16 of the Berks & Bucks FA Sunday Trophy with a 3-1 home win over Reading United. Mannion opened the scoring after a cross from Dany Setiawan, before providing both other assists for Phil Newport and Setiawan in a good cup win.

The last outing of the month saw the team finally begin our Saturday League season as we battled to a 2-2 draw against Pundit FC in the EBFL's Premier Division. Mannion flicked on a Robert Austin dead ball in the second-half for Newport to hit a sweet left-footed volley, and then ran clear of the Pundit defence to net his first Saturday goal of the season.

This means that over the course of the 6 games, Mannion managed 8 goals and 9 assist, an impressive total of 17 goal contributions - stats that the team couldn't overlook this month as the club continued their unbeaten start to the season.

Club Manager, Robert Austin, presented Mannion with the award (pictured above) after the team's 4-0 win against Lambourn Sports in the Charles Twelftrees Trophy on Saturday 13th November 2021.

Thoughts from Club Secretary, Robert Austin:

"The team have started the season so strongly, with each week building momentum. We've been compact at the back, solid in midfield, and particularly devastating up top. Our attacking players have started the campaign so strong and Leon has been the focal point of the attack that we missed last season - with our Number 9 having been in great form this season, this show of recognition is more than deserved.

17 attacking returns proved undeniable as the squad overwhelmingly voted for Leon, with the attacker already beating his goal tally from the club's first season, and we're currently only in November! It's been a productive and overwhelmingly positive start though, which has seen a lot of goals and an actual season of growth and development - our Management team couldn't have asked more from the players and everyone involved in helping the club to an unbeaten start.

I'd also like to give shout-outs to several members of the team who were in recognition this month, with Owen Jones and Gino Izzo having great months for the club too!"
