Match Report:

The Train's encounter against Maidenhead Town was our 9th competitive fixture of the 2025/26 season, with the team competing in Thames Valley Premier League (TVPL) Division One. This was our first encounter against Maidenhead Town's first team, and our latest encounter at Burnham FC's 1878 Stadium, last winning the EBFL Presidents Cup in April 2025 at the venue.

After a positive and compact first 25 minutes of the game for The Train, the opening goal of the game was route one when the hosts Maidenhead won a corner, with the set-piece headed home powerfully after 25 minutes. The lead was doubled minutes later after the team fell asleep after the ball went out for a throw, allowing Town's left winger to cut the ball back to their right winger who finished well into the bottom corner.

There was a goal to reduce the deficit to 2-1 just shy of the 30-minute mark, with an attack starting after a brilliant sliding challenge by Aiden Iqbal at the halfway line set up Connor Anderson to collect and run with the ball. Anderson eventually fed Kaao Ka down the line, who ran into the penalty area before cutting the ball back to Anderson to sweep home from the six-yard-line.

With 37 minutes on the clock, Maidenhead restored their 2-goal lead following a long throw, which saw a half volley on goal hitting the post, with the ball rebounding inwards across the line and allowing an easy tap home from close range. The 4th was then scored after 40 minutes after Maidenhead robbed the ball on their left, before cutting the ball back.

In the second-half the game was well and truly away from ourselves in the 51st minute when a corner was played towards the edge of the box, with a Maidenhead player winning the race for the ball to sweep home a good strike on goal, whilst late strikes in the 74th and 82nd minute were both the same - cut backs across the penalty area with composed finishes that were swept home well - securing a big home win for Maidenhead.

Next up, The Train are returning to league action action in TVPL Division One on Saturday 15th November 2025, hosting Rotherfield United at Waingels College.

Thoughts from Club Secretary, Robert Austin:

"The squad were really looking forward to the game, and have always loved a visit to Burnham FC's ground, but by quite a margin today was our longest day at the office at the ground. We went in with a gameplan, and the team largely applied themselves, but ultimately we were over powered in set-piece scenarios, and were caught asleep several times, which led to a comfortable victory for Maidenhead.

The hosts on their day were superb, and had a few key performers that pulled them to a good win, whilst for us, even though we were compact and well in the game even at 2-1, we ran out of legs and were forced into several changes due to injury. On the whole though, we were left rightfully frustrated and will look to build on our experience in the weeks ahead.

Best of luck to Maidenhead, and thank you for the good hospitality on the day. We hope you go deep into the tournament and push for promotion this season."
