Player of the Month - Phil Newport:

Our Player of the Month award for April 2022 is our 10th monthly award awarded, with Phil Newport winning the player vote at the club - with the attacker winning the award for the second time this season!

The team started their month in the semi-finals of the EBFL Presidents Cup on 2nd April against Old Windsor FC Reserves at the neutral venue of Britwell FC's Chicken Ranch. Newport was in fine attacking form, scoring a beautiful first-time strike to open the scoring, before scoring a penalty to make it 3-0 before half-time. Newport later completed his hat-trick in the second-half after winning possession off of Windsor's defence, completing a hat-trick and sealing our place in our first EBFL cup final.

Our next Saturday League encounter was against KS Gryf on 16th April, with the team beating our Polish visitors 4-1 at home over the bank holiday weekend. Newport scored all 4 goals for the team, including a brace of near-identical goals in the first-half, before scoring from close range twice in the second-half.

The following morning on 17th April in the club's last RDSL Division 4 away game, the team won 6-0 away from home against Barton Rovers. Instead of a hat-trick of goals, Newport contributed a hat-trick of assists, setting up Callum Parr-Jones with a nice pass and headed flick on, and then dribbled through the Barton backline to force an own goal.

The following midweek saw the team take part in our first Wednesday evening league fixture as we took on Stoke Poges on April 20th. Newport scored the team's 2nd goal in a 4-3 victory, teed up by Leon Mannion from close range, and was then instrumental in the 3rd goal as his strong run set up Mannion in return.

To round out the month, Newport was inches away from scoring against AFC Cressex in EBFL's Premier Division on April 24th in a 0-0, seeing a close range header from a Robert Austin cross excellently saved by the Cressex keeper. Last on the docket was the return fixture against KS Gryf on April 30th, which saw Newport score the team's 2nd goal, against after being in the right place to convert after good work from Leon Mannion.

This all meant that the club's Number 11 scored 9 goals and assists 4 goals across 6 matches in the month, and was a worthy winner of the club's monthly award.

Club Chairman, Sam Austin, presented Newport with the award after the team's 4-3 win against AFC Cressex on Saturday 7th May 2022 in the final of the EBFL Presidents Cup.

Thoughts from Club Secretary, Robert Austin:

"Each and every month Phil is up there with the candidates for Player of the Month, and April was another month where Phil was at the forefront of the team as we were in some big matches. 13 attacking returns (9 goals, 4 assists) was another great return. He was unplayable against Gryf in our 4-1 home win and caused defenders all sorts of mental and physical trauma with powerful runs down the wing. I've got a lot of time and respect for players that give their all, commit to improving at trainings and games, and he's been such a big part of the team this season.

Phil was also a key player as we won our first-ever trophy, the EBFL Presidents Cup, and deserves every bit of praise that comes his way after an improved season that has seen him come on strides in all departments!"
