Player of the Month - Sam Bolwell:
Our October 2020 Player of the Month award is our inaugural monthly award, with the player chosen by our Management team. With the season starting on October 3rd 2020 we played a total of five competitive matches, with new central midfielder, Sam Bolwell, featuring in all five fixtures.
Bolwell started four of the five matches, first making his debut, and impressing, against Iver Heath on opening day in EBFL Division One. A week later in a 1-0 home win over Hambleden in Division One, Bolwell impressed again with a battling performance, before the midfielder scored and won our Man of the Match award in a highly-entertaining 3-2 defeat away at Stoke Poges.
Turning attention to cup action, Bolwell scored the only goal of the game as we beat a young and quick Wokingham & Emmbrook Development outfit in the first group stage match of the Legea Ultimate XI Challenge Cup.
The squad rounded out our October against Phoenix Old Boys on Halloween in a horror performance from the home side, with Bolwell ultimately starting four of the five matches. After our Maidenhead Norfolkian Cup tie, Manager Robert Austin presented Bolwell with the award (pictured above).
Thoughts from Player Manager, Robert Austin:
"I'll take any opportunity to speak positively about my squad and there's been no better example of somebody making a great impression with the squad than with Sam Bolwell's arrival.
Since he showed up mid-way during pre-season, Bolwell's attended every single training session, has been available for every game and has settled really well with the team. Sam even scored on his debut in pre-season against Old Windsor and it set the tempo for the month to come. Congratulations to Bolwell, it's been a very positive couple of months and we can't wait for what's to come in the future!
Everyone in the group agreed that this award is fully deserved and hopefully Bolwell, as well as the squad, can kick on when grassroots football returns before Christmas this year."
