Match Report:
The Train's encounter against Bramley United was our 18th competitive fixture of the 2025/26 season, with the team competing in Thames Valley Premier League (TVPL) Division One. This was our 2nd competitive match against AFC Reading this season, with our previous encounter ending in a 5-1 win at Waingels College last October.
The game sprung to life for both teams in a quick start, with the opening goal of the game arriving in the 10th minute of the game. After a ball forward by Chalfont, Daniel Mace cleared the ball away but the ball dropped to an opposition midfielder who then fed through the Chalfont #11 through on goal - and what followed was a lovely finish by the hosts to float the ball into the far-right of the goal.
Not letting the opening goal get the spirits down, The Train rallied back well in the 12th minute. Starting when the ball was shifted from the left of the pitch by Gino Izzo into the feet of Aiden Iqbal, the eventual ball forward by Iqbal caught a fortunate bobble as Jabal Hassanali on the right of midfield ran through unopposed on goal before checking the ball back for Ashley Rockall to sweep the ball home on his right foot - Rockall's 5th goal of the season that drew the team level on the road!
Prior to the 3rd goal of the game, Chris Marshall, making his 100th appearance at the club, made a brilliant one-on-one save, before the team won a corner in the 26th minute after Connor Anderson's near-post drive was well saved. The following corner in the 27th minute was a perfectly weighted delivery from Nadim Gharabli that was won in the air initially by Rockall, though the effort crashed off the bar, before Callum Gibbons was on hand to chest the rebound in on the line to take the lead - with Gibbons's goal his first in just over 4 years at the club.
Into the second-half, the team took command of the game in the 54th minute, and we did so in style as a forward pass by Rockall on the outside of his left foot was sublime as the pass set up Anderson on a plate, who calmly finished with his left, to move the game to 3-1 with a big chunk of the game still to play. Over the course of the game, many chances from set-pieces threatened, and both goalkeepers were called into action, but the defensive line at Hype Train was able to stand strong against a good veteran outfit.
The final action of the game saw a 4th and final goal for the club in the 91st minute, with Rockall the assist provider yet again as the attacker was composed in finding the feet of Anderson on the left flank, who in turn was patient as he twisted and turned in the penalty area, before firing into the near-post and past the Chalfont shot-stopper, to secure the points in TVPL Division One.
Next up, The Train host Allied Community Elite on March 28th 2026, in Thames Valley Premier League's Division One.
Thoughts from Club Secretary, Robert Austin:
"We can be honest in saying that it has been a difficult period of results at the club. We've been off the pace and fighting a tough run of fixtures and have gotten away from ourselves somewhat but today was a return to form and we at the club are incredibly pleased that we were able to put in a top performance in a continually good division.
We went to Chalfont with a bare 11 of players, and played on a bobbly, unpredictable grass pitch on a hill and over the course of the 90 minutes fought for everything together as a group, had a good game plan that we executed, and with a lot of players missing, were able to adapt and grow into the game against a good and experienced Chalfont outfit.
Over the course of the game, we deserved the points but were made to work for everything and across the pitch excelled at times. Chris Marshall in goal was superb, whilst the defensive line all game were a pleasure to watch, whilst the midfield didn't allow the hosts a sniff, and up top Ashley Rockall was a fierce presence. Well done to all the players for getting the game going ahead and showing a good resilience to earn the victory.
We'd like to thank Chalfont for a couple of good games of football this season, and for the hospitality after the game, they're a top club and a nice group of players who are a credit to the league and club. Best of luck for the rest of the season!"
